# Where your data lives

> What NeuroSquad keeps on your computer, where, and how to back it up or reset it.

Source: https://docs.neurosquad.ai/en/help/data

Everything NeuroSquad remembers — workspaces, cards, canvas layouts, notes, todo lists, settings,
dictation history — is kept in one folder on your computer:

```text
%APPDATA%\NeuroSquad
```

Paste that into the Windows Explorer address bar to open it. Installing a new version doesn't touch
this folder, and neither does uninstalling the app — unless you turn on **Also delete my NeuroSquad
data** in the uninstaller. See [Uninstalling](https://docs.neurosquad.ai/en/getting-started/installation#uninstalling).

On a Mac the folder is:

```text
~/Library/Application Support/NeuroSquad
```

In Finder, choose **Go → Go to Folder…** (`⇧` `⌘` `G`) and paste it. Updates don't
touch it, and neither does dragging the app to the Trash.

## Recordings

[Workspace recordings](https://docs.neurosquad.ai/en/canvas/recording) are kept in its `recordings` subfolder (or wherever
`NEUROSQUAD_RECORDINGS_DIR` points). They can be large, and they contain every key typed into the
recorded terminals — delete the ones you no longer need from **Canvas tools → Recordings…**.

## What's not there

- **Your code.** NeuroSquad only remembers where your project folder is. It never copies it.
- **Your agents' logins.** Agents use their own sign-in; NeuroSquad never sees it.
- **Keys you save in NeuroSquad** (OpenRouter, Telegram bot tokens) are encrypted by your operating system
(Windows, or the Keychain on a Mac) and can't be read back — not even from your phone.
- **Audio.** Dictation keeps only the text.

## What leaves your computer

Your NeuroSquad sign-in, and usage statistics while you're signed in — counts only, never code, file
names, paths or prompts. Signing out doesn't delete anything in this folder. See
[Account & sign-in](https://docs.neurosquad.ai/en/getting-started/account#what-the-app-sends).

## Back up, move or reset

- **Back up:** copy the folder.
- **Move to another computer:** copy the folder over. If your projects live in different places
there, update each workspace's folder. Saved keys don't move — enter them again.
- **Start from scratch:** with NeuroSquad closed, delete the folder. Your projects aren't affected.

> Close NeuroSquad (including from the tray) before changing anything in this folder.
